Challenge
Designing an efficient and patient-centered healthcare environment for a repeat client, Dr. Kim, following the successful renovation of his eye and surgery center in Palisades Park, New Jersey. This interior fit-out project, located in the dense urban setting of downtown Flushing, required a layout that optimized workflow, enhanced patient experience, and integrated privacy, comfort, and operational efficiency while also addressing the challenge of limited access to outdoor space.
Solution
The design introduced a custom-built central work and nurse station, strategically positioned to facilitate seamless staff and patient interactions while streamlining daily healthcare operations. To enhance patient experience, the waiting area was carefully arranged to establish a visual connection to an outdoor roof deck, offering a rare moment of openness and respite within the dense urban environment. To ensure patient privacy and comfort, exam rooms were equipped with high-performance soundproofing, as well as independent thermal and lighting controls—critical factors in optimizing healthcare environments.
Value Delivered
By combining functionality with design excellence, the project transformed the clinic into a highly efficient, patient-friendly space. The visual connection to the outdoor roof deck provided patients with a sense of openness and relief, creating a more calming and comfortable waiting experience. Meanwhile, the meticulous attention to privacy and environmental controls elevated the quality of care. The result is a healthcare facility that not only supports operational efficiency but also enhances patient well-being through thoughtful spatial design and a stronger connection to the outdoors.
