Challenge
The Kingston–Ulster Airport (KUA), a privately owned public-use local airport situated in the picturesque Hudson Valley, faced the challenge of revitalizing its aging infrastructure and creating a new cultural icon for the region. The goal was to transform the airport into a vibrant hub that would attract a diverse range of visitors, including pilots, friends, families, local academic communities, and weekenders from New York City.
Solutions
The new clubhouse serves as a gateway and cultural landmark for Hudson Valley, celebrating aviation with a contemporary, flight-inspired design. Its column-free space allows flexible event use, while a courtyard framed by wings enables seamless indoor-outdoor transitions. The layout integrates the runway into the spatial experience, deepening the aviation connection. An insulated fabric roof filters natural light, creating an airy, aviation-inspired ambiance. This facility redefines the airport’s brand identity, enhancing amenities, fostering community, and elevating the visitor experience.
Projected Value
If built, the new clubhouse and the revitalized Kingston–Ulster Airport will deliver significant value to the region. The project will transform the airport into a dynamic center that brings together aviation communities and serves as a catalyst for local development. The enhanced brand identity and improved facilities will attract more visitors, bolstering the airport's role as a key asset for the Hudson Valley. The project's impact will extend beyond aviation, fostering stronger connections within the community and contributing to the area's cultural and economic growth. This development will create a vibrant hub that celebrates the spirit of flight and enhances the overall experience for all visitors.
